A Blu-ray release for the show has been canceled.

Fans of ABC’s “FlashForward” will be staging organized blackouts in major cities around the world on June 10th in hopes of seeing a future for the canceled show. The blackouts will resemble the fictional global blackout seen in the freshman drama where people collectively lost consciousness and saw a glimpse of their future lives.

The effort is organized by “Save FlashForward” with this mission statement:

“On October 6, 2009, the whole world blacked out for 2 minutes and 17 seconds, at the start of what promised to be ABC’s new hit show, FlashForward. In May, ABC canceled it, but still aired the explosive cliffhanger finale leaving fans begging for more. On June 10th, there will be another blackout, this time to change fate.”

Blackouts will be staged in front of ABC offices in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, and will occur in other major cities including Detroit, Ontario, London, and Dublin, Ireland. Visit www.preventtheblackout.com for details on the event in the city closest to you.

This fan effort punctuates the campaign to get the show based on the novel by Robert J. Sawyer renewed. Fans have sent ABC President, Stephen McPherson “FlashForward” themed objects, including calendars with the date of the flashforward and second global blackout (April 29th) circled and friendship bracelets like the one Charlie Benford gave her father, FBI Agent Mark Benford, head of the Mosaic Task Force investigating the global blackout.

Fan tactics like those of “Jericho” fans sending peanuts to CBS execs and “Chuck” fans descending on series advertiser, Subway, to get the attention of NBC have succeeded in achieving a second season for the shows. A second season of “FlashForward” would be an interesting juggle for several of the main cast as Joseph Fiennes (to star in “Camelot”), Christine Woods (to star in “Perfect Couples”), Zachary Knighton (to star in “Happy Endings”), and Ryan Wynott (to star in “The Cape”) are already signed onto other projects. Without eliminating the part that explains the phenomena happening to people in the entire world for 2 minutes and 17 seconds, the new promo of “FlashForward” gives the actual mass blackout occurring at a sport stadium. Toward the end of the promo, something peculiar is captured in the cctv video while people pass out.

A new sci-fi series airing on ABC, “FlashForward” tells the mysterious happening that caused people to see few months ahead of their life. Following the global event, people start dying one by one while operating man-controlled vehicles like cars and aircraft. The series stars Joseph Fiennes as Mark Benford, John Cho as Demetri Noh, Sonya Walger as Olivia Benford, Dominic Monaghan as Simon and more.

ABC is going full throttle in promoting this show by creating a unique campaign that has bizarre codes on printed ads. The black-and-white codes can be held up to a webcam and the computer screen turns into a 3D ad featuring photos from the show. Each of the photos will extend to clips when clicked.

“Once you watch all the videos, it’s a 10-minute experience,” Darren Schillace, ABC Entertainment advertising/marketing exec explained. “In the normal world, you’d never spend 10 minutes with a print ad.” Ads can be found on tech-oriented publications such as Wired, Popular Mechanics and some gaming magazines. Molly Sullivan: For the show-runners, can you talk about the genesis of this project? How many seasons do you see? If you go for two seasons, will you answer this question and then have another blackout and try to solve that one?

David S. Goyer: By the end of the first season, most of the questions raised in the pilot, including the one you see at the very end, will be answered. The over-arcing cause of why the blackout happened, that’s like our background radiation mystery of the whole series. I think, to really do the show justice, we would need at least three seasons, and it can kind of accordion out, Courtney says, to 21 seasons. [Laughs]

Courtney B. Vance: Rawhide.

DSG: I’ll be in adult diapers by then. [Laughs]

Marc Guggenheim: I’ll be in adult diapers by the end of the season.

Joseph Fiennes: That depends.

DSG: In terms of the genesis, it’s loosely based on a novel that Jessica found about eight years ago.

Being ultra-secretive and mysterious, former Lost star Dominic Monaghan will only say that he is going to be playing Simon on the upcoming ABC television series Flash Forward.

During the Television Critics Association Press Tour, the actor admitted that he was told more, up front, about Lost than he was for this new venture, which he signed on for without even a script. But, he also explained that the draw for him was the great writing and the ability to play a character that was vastly different from his last.
