Lost star Dominic Monaghan became depressed when he couldn’t find work after Lord of the Rings. The actor, who played hobbit Merry in the epic trilogy, struggled to get another job after spending almost four years filming and promoting the Tolkien films.
He confessed: “I wasn’t taking care of myself. I was sleeping in the day and getting up at night. I wrote 50 journals in a year. I’d never been depressed so I didn’t understand it. I felt like I had a big weight on my chest.”
Dominic, who plays drug addict rocker Charlie in Lost, believes he was typecast after Lord of the Rings, which didn’t help his chances of employment.
He explained to Britain’s New magazne: “I was being asked to audition for sh*t teen horror films, fantasy-type things. I was trying to work out where do I go from here, is this the best it’s ever going to be?
“I had enough money to get food, but I was kind of scuppering myself because I didn’t have a car or a phone.”
Dominic was eventually pulled out of his depression by his Rings co-star Billy Boyd. He revealed: “Billy was a big help. He was doing Master and Commander in Mexico and said, ‘Come down!’ So I took my surfboard and we chatted. He reminded me of why I wanted to be an actor and I had days where I could see the magic.
“I think it will be a long time now before I could go back into that hole.”
LOST star Dominic Monaghan warmed up for the Emmy Awards by downing Mojito cocktails with co-star Jorge Garcia.
Brit Dominic plays drug addict musician Charlie Pace in the Channel 4 show, which won the Best Drama gong at the Emmys in LA.
He joked that Jorge – who plays loveable Hurley Reyes – had been a bad influence on him.
The actor, best known as Merry the hobbit in Lord of the Rings, said: “I drove in with Jorge, we spent 45 mins drinking Mojitos in the limo.

POLICE are hunting a Lord of the Rings look-a-like who stole a woman’s handbag.
A 27-year-old woman who was knocked over before having her handbag stolen said her attacker was “A 20-year-old white male, under six foot tall and looked like the actor from Lord of the Rings and hit TV series Lost.”
The robber bore an uncanny resemblance to actor Dominic Monaghan who played hobbit Merry in the Lord Of The Rings movie trilogy and is currently starring in the big budget Channel 4 show Lost.
She also described the suspect as gaunt and pale and wearing a blue hooded top.
The woman was attacked at 9.30pm in Well Walk, Hampstead.
She was walking along the street when she was pushed to the ground from behind and felt someone pulling at her bag.
As the woman got to her knees she saw the robber standing over her and pulling her bag from her shoulder.
She shouted at him to stop but he ran off with her handbag. A mobile phone, cash, keys and a Sony Discman were among the items stolen.

Australians are the most honest people in the world, according to Lost star Dominic Monaghan.
Monaghan, who was in Melbourne recently, arrived back in the US to discover he had lost his wallet.
Not knowing where he had mislaid it, Monaghan called Channel 7 asking if someone could check the suits he had borrowed to see if he had left the wallet in a pocket.
A quick check by the network wardrobe chiefs discovered the wallet in a jacket.
Monaghan was suitably impressed when the wallet – complete with cash and cards – was express posted to him in LA.

Dominic Monaghan is lost in paradise. Currently residing on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, he is enjoying his time on the tropical isle surfing, but this is hardly a vacation. Instead he is starring as Charlie, a washed-up musician who survives a plane crash and must start a new life on a deserted island in one of AXN’s most anticipated drama series, Lost. The brainchild of Alias creator J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof, Lost features a large ensemble cast and some ongoing mysteries that are sure to keep viewers guessing.
Little is initially revealed about Charlie–the bass player in a one-hit-wonder band whose members, he insists, are still together and due for a comeback–and early hints indicate he’s hiding a pretty big secret.

Lost star Dominic Monaghan plays a rocker on his hit show, but in real life you’re more likely to find him behind the turntables. The actor recently put his deejaying skills to good use at Helping Hands, an event organized by actor Greg Grunberg to raise funds to fight epilepsy (the Alias star’s 8-year-old son, Jake, has the disease).
Monaghan ? who along with other Lost and Alias cast members helped bring in $300,000 ? is an old pro. “I’ve been deejaying for my friends since I was about 15,” he told us. “We’d get so tired of being in a club and the music getting me down. So I started my own music, which is a lot more fun.”
So, what kind of mixmaster is he? “The style tends to be kind of old-school rap with a lot of party pleasers. Like ‘ABC’ by The Jackson 5, ‘O.P.P.’ by Naughty by Nature, some Justin Timberlake. I got it all,” he says. “You don’t have to twist my arm too much. I love playing music.”

THE LORD OF THE RINGS star DOMINIC MONAGHAN has developed a new habit since moving to Los Angeles – walking around naked.
The German actor, who spent a large portion of his life in Britain, admits that the Californian heat he now experiences leaves him with no other option than to shed his clothing.
He says, “I enjoy a little naked time in my house. It’s so hot in LA that I sleep with no clothes on and then I go and have my breakfast – if it’s not cooked – naked. If you have cooked breakfast you can’t be naked.
“I enjoy my nakedness.”
