Peter Jackson says that an announcement is coming “sometime soon” regarding “The Hobbit,” the “Lord of the Rings” prequel that has been delayed and beleaguered by the financial troubles of MGM. When Guillermo Del Toro removed himself from the project, most fans got it in their minds that Jackson would return to Middle-Earth in his rightful director’s throne. As of now, nothing has been confirmed, but there’s at least one “Lord of the Rings” star hoping that Jackson steps behind the lens on “The Hobbit” — Dominic Monaghan.

“I can’t really imagine anyone other than Pete directing ‘The Hobbit,’” Monaghan told MTV News, adding that the filmmaker’s extensive work in creating the world of Middle-Earth would make it virtually impossible for another director to step into Jackson’s shoes.

“You have to understand — the world of Middle Earth has already been created by Peter Jackson, by his special effects company, both physical and digital, these computer generated characters,” said Monaghan. “It would almost be impossible for a director to come in and bring his own thing because how would he color Middle Earth and how would he create Gollum without those codes? Pete has all of those codes that make Gollum a computer-generated character and makes the Cave Troll and makes all of these special effects.”

“It’s almost like asking someone to paint a picture but giving them no paint,” he continued. “Pete really has all of the paint. Unless he’s either producing or directing, not only will the film not correlate with the ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy, but I think the vast majority of the ‘Lord of the Rings’ fans will boycott the film because Pete had so much to do with that franchise.”

For his own part, Monaghan would be up for returning to Middle-Earth in “The Hobbit,” though he has some concerns about the possibility.

“I wouldn’t want to cheapen the strength of ‘The Hobbit,’ which is really the story of Bilbo and Gandalf and various other characters,” he said. “To kind of cookie-cutter in the characters that people grew to love in ‘Lord of the Rings,’ I think might not be incredibly fair to an audience who really loved that book. But I’m going to know Pete for the rest of my life, and I hope to work with him several times before he hangs up his ‘Hobbit’ feet.”

Dominic Monaghan provoked Megan Fox while filming Eminem’s “Love the Way You Lie” music video – because he was determined for the beauty to “get angry” and “smack” him.

The couple portray Eminem and his ex-wife Kim Mathers during their tumultuous and violent relationship and the British actor reveals he was so dedicated to the shoot, he shaved his head to play the rapper and asked Fox to call him Slim – the hip-hop star’s nickname.

And he admits he was more focused on taunting his co-star than their steamy clinches.

Monaghan tells EOnline.com, “You try to make it as real as possible. I tried as hard as I can to find things that would press her buttons and use those to get her angry. I wanted her to be on me and smack the hell out of me, which she proceeded to do.

“I busted myself up punching the walls, punching the mirror and all that kind of stuff. You come home at night and you’re tired. You don’t go home at night feeling all stoked that you got to make out with some cute girl.

“It’s work. You have to understand that cameras are being pointed at you and they’re in your face and people are telling you to move this way or move that way. It’s not terrible work, but it is work.”

Given that he’s one of the biggest names in music videos and his latest project featured both Eminem and Rihanna, Joseph Kahn should have had no problem casting the two leads for the “Love the Way You Lie” video. And yet, he considers himself “incredibly lucky” to have landed both Dominic Monaghan and Megan Fox for the clip.

“Megan is one of those choices, like, whenever you write a music video, you go, ‘I want a girl like Megan Fox,’ ” Kahn told MTV News. “I guarantee, like, 95 percent of music videos, they write, ‘I would like a girl like Megan Fox.’”

Kahn said Fox is so popular, he didn’t initially consider her participation a possibility. “We were actually looking around for some other actresses, and then, midway through, I just thought, ‘Why don’t I just try this?’ ” he said. “I mean, I have the biggest artist in the world, with the hottest song on the planet, with the hottest female artist … and it’s a meaty role. It’s not like you’re just slipping in there and looking pretty.”

Fortunately for Kahn, Fox is an Eminem fan, and she loved the song and the role. “So, she said ‘yes,’ ” he said. “I was blown away.”

On the other hand, the director said he considered courting Monaghan right away. “I wanted him because he’s an actor who can bury himself [in his roles],” Kahn said. “You can do anything with him, and essentially, he’s a villain through all of [the video], and I think he did a great job.”

So, with two big-name actors on set, and only two days to shoot the entire video, Kahn had his work cut out for him. Monaghan and Fox were going to need to channel conflicting emotions — anger one second, passion the next — and do it quickly. As the director, it was up to Kahn to help them harness all of that — often at a moment’s notice. Luckily for him, he had two of the best to work with.

“I just told them: This is not like a normal film. We have two days on set, and we have to think of it as an acting workshop, because you’re going to have to ramp up into emotions in two seconds, you’re not going to know what the story is, and you’re going to have to trust one another,” he explained. “I’m asking them to go from zero to 100 in two seconds, so they were using all their techniques as actors. Dom would be calling her names, she’d be calling him names … to see them turn it on like that, it was really a fascinating acting study.” (Source)

She may be considered one of the sexiest women on the planet, but Lost star Dominic Monaghan has given Megan Fox a lukewarm appraisal as a kisser. The actor features alongside Fox, 24, in Eminem and Rihanna’s new video for the chart-topping single Love The Way You Lie
.
And despite the fact that Dominic gets to make out with the Transformers star in the clip he says it is just ‘work’.

When asked what it is like kissing Megan, the 33-year-old told MTV News: “It’s all right, no I’m just kidding. It’s fine, it’s work. She’s married. I have a lot of respect for marriage.”

Monaghan didn’t want to cross a line with the brunette, who has recently married actor Brian Austin Green. And he said to her: ‘Look, I know that you’re married and I don’t want to do anything inappropriate and she said, “It’s all kind of inappropriate, huh?”‘

The video, which was directed by Joseph Kahn, sees the pair playing a couple going through an abusive relationship.
Describing the storyline, Dominic said:

“It’s the story of Eminem and his ex-wife Kim getting to know each other, and it’s the story of their tumultuous relationship and it’s the story of the breakdown of their relationship. We’re supposed to be desperately in love, like Sid and Nancy, John and Yoko… Eminem and Kim. Though I tried as hard as I could to make her laugh and have fun with her. I think we got on pretty well.”
