Dom and the most poisonous scorpion in the world

Dom went to Namibia in February to film for Wild Things and was looking for the most poisonous scorpion this planet has seen, the Parabuthus villosus.

Dom and the most poisonous scorpion in the world

Monaghan and his crew hired the expert advice of Tharina Bird (Namibian National Museum) and local film production Magic Touch Films.
Their aim was to find one of the biggest and most venomous scorpions in the world, the Parabuthus Villosus.
“Kind of a Lord of the Rings meets Scorpion King,”said Wolfgang Knoepfler of Magic Touch Films, a Namibian film production company that’s been involved in several major film and television movies and documentaries.
According to Knoepfler, Bird scouted the film locations in advance to make sure that they found what they were looking for.
The team first made their way to the Waterberg Plateau where filming of the Hadogenes Troglodytes (Flat Rock Scorpion) amongst the dinosaur footprints took place. The search continued even into the night, but no ‘scorpion king’ (Parabuthus Villosus) was found.
The Brandberg was the next stop, which apparently has the richest scorpion fauna in Southern Africa.

Dom’s nature show has been picked up in the US, England and Canada

‘Lost’ Alum Dominic Monaghan Lands Travel Series on BBC America

The network announces production of “Wild Things,” which sends the British actor around the globe in search of big and bizarre insects.

Dominic Monaghan is getting lost again. BBC America, OLN and Channel 5 announced Tuesday that the Lost and Lord of the Rings actor will star in a new travel-adventure series, already in production.

Wild Things with Dominic Monaghan will find the British actor globetrotting in search of “the biggest, scariest and weirdest insects on the planet.”

In a statement from BBC America, Monaghan explained that this isn’t a new interest for him. “I have been obsessed and interested in nature all my life,” he said. “This show brings together years of excited preparation by finally creating a series that demonstrates my love for travel, animals, adventure and people.”

The latest original in a new slate from the anglophile cable net, Wild Things was co-commissioned by Canada’s OLN and the UK’s Channel 5. It’s being produced by Cream Productions and Wildfire Television and distributed internationally by ITV Studios Global Entertainment.

“Wild Things with Dominic Monaghan introduces our audience to creatures typically only seen in fantasy or science fiction,” said Perry Simon, BBC Worldwide America GM, channels. “We are among the many fans of Dominic’s work, and it is his genuine love and knowledge of these creatures and the production team’s global ambition that inspired us to make this series an important part of our slate of new originals.”

The series will premiere on BBC America later in 2012. Monaghan is repped by APA.

More info on Dom’s nature show

Dom is actually eating beetle grubs that had been roasted in a leaf there. Yummy…

A professor from Drexel University who has gone to Ecuador with Dom to shoot his nature show with him there has uploaded a couple of pictures and there’s an article about the kind of things they saw in Ecuador. I am only going to post the bits about Dom, but the whole article is really interesting. Go and read it here: http://www.drexel.edu/coas/news/archive/sean-of-the-jungle/
