Simmonses devise way to look fabulous and still be responsible Hip-hop demigod Russell Simmons and Kimora Lee Simmons have found a green way to fight those “blood diamonds” that are mined in war zones. The Simmons Jewelry Co. has developed the Green Initiative jewelry collection, a line of enviro-friendly, human rights-friendly pieces that’ll make you look so lovely while also raising money for nonprofit educational programs in Africa.

The Green Bracelet, which is made from native African materials and has been worn, the Simmonses say, by singer Beyonce, supermodel Naomi Campbell and actor-singer Eddie Murphy, costs $125, half of which goes back to the nonprofit.

The rest of the line has all sorts of stuff ranging from $250 to $80,000, a quarter of which goes back to Africa.

Mel Gibson, fresh off his Mexico-based epic “Apocalypto,” is thinking of heading south to film a movie in Panama, tourism officials said. Gibson dined Sunday night with Ruben Blades, a tourism spokesman and singer, who suggested his next project should be a remake of the 1950 film noir “Panic in the Streets,” set in Panama, the Panama Tourism Bureau said. Panamanian filmmaker Jose Severino said he was in negotiations with Gibson to produce a movie about Spanish explorer Vasco Nunez de Balboa, the first European to see the Pacific Ocean from its eastern shore.

Actor Tobey Maguire has confirmed the upcoming “Spider-Man 3″ will be the last time he plays the superhero on the big screen. Co-star Kirsten Dunst has also said she feels the third film will be the last in the popular franchise. Maguire says, “To me it seems like this is a natural point for the team to break up. . . . It feels like a trilogy to me, and it feels like the end.”
